OSX Apps We Recommend

We compiled a list of useful apps for daily general use. One thing to mention: if you need some of Photoshop’s functionality but you do not want to spend much money, then Pixelimator and Aperture from appstore can be a Photoshop replacement. Just give it a try.

Drawing / Painting apps

Pixelmator – commercial but cheap, it worth the money
GIMP – free (you must also install X11)

Photo Apps

Aperture – commercial, it woth the money. Don’t buy iPhoto.

Video Editing Apps

iMovie - if you do not do professional video editing, iMovie is enough for you. It is very easy to use and usually you will not need more features.

Text Editors

Pages – commercial, cheap, it worth the money.
OpenOffice or LibreOffice – free

Presentations Apps

Keynote, commercial, but cheap, it worth the money.
OpenOffice or LibreOffice – free

EMail Clients

Seamonkey email client – free

Media Players

VLC – free, very good

Virtualisation Apps

VirtualBox – free, very good

Development Tools
